The developments in therapeutic approaches and services in mental health are opening a range of new career options for nurses. Acute psychiatric care, community mental health care, crisis intervention, medium and high security care, alcohol and drug treatment facilities, adolescent care facilities, hospital liaison services and prison nursing are some of the mental health career options.

Praise for mental health review

The review of mental health nursing was published as a tool to bring services across the country as it makes 17 recommendations on improving outcomes and developing the nurse's role and has examples of best practice. The review suggests trusts look at senior clinical roles with a view to extending nurse's practice and advocates greater support for nurse prescribing.
