Article Abstract:
The Health and Safety Executive is due to publish 'Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging) Regulations', which aims to provide more information to companies and the general public on chemical hazards. The regulations will cover pure and mixed substances. In future suppliers will need to examine the dangerous properties of the chemicals and if dangerous, must provide detailed information on hazards for users in the form of labels and leaflets.

New procedures on improvement notices
Article Abstract:
The Health Safety Executive and local authority inspectors are implementing new ways of enforcing some health and safety laws. Businesses will now have the right to make an informal representation before an improvement notice is served by the inspector. However inspectors will still be able to take immediate enforcement action if required.

Modernising the law on railway safety
Article Abstract:
Proposals to modernise, simplify and strengthen the railway safety law have been drawn up by the HSC. Some of the existing legislation dates back to 1839 and the proposals aim to repeal outdated and prescriptive requirements, replacing them with goal setting duties covering collisions and derailments and unauthorised access to railways.
