Chemotherapeutic drugs -- more really is not better

Giving chemotherapy drugs in smaller doses could reduce side effects and might even be more effective. Most drugs are given at the maximum tolerated dose, but this causes such severe side effects patients must recover. During this recovery period, the cancer could start growing again.

MRP4: a previously unidentified factor in resistance to nucleoside-based antiviral drugs
Article Abstract:
Researchers have identified a protein produced by mammalian cells that pumps drugs out of the cell. The protein, MRP4, could explain why some HIV patients become resistant to some AIDS drugs even though their viral isolate shows no sign of drug resistance.
