Chronic parotitis: diagnosis and treatment
Article Abstract:
The diagnosis and treatment of chronic parotitis are discussed based on the case of a 60-year-old woman with a 30-year history of recurring parotid gland swelling. Parotitis is an inflammation or infection of the parotid glands, which are one of the glands that produce saliva. It is often caused by decreased saliva production, which normally flushes out the parotid gland ducts and keeps them from becoming infected.

Salivary gland injury resulting from exposure to radioactive iodine
Article Abstract:
Radioactive iodine 131 is used to treat differentiated thyroid carcinomas, and is picked up by salivary glands that in turn can result in the development of radiation sialadenitis. The salivary gland injuries in two patients who underwent radioactive iodine 131 treatments were studied. The glandular damage was assessed through a radioisotope method.
