Penetrance of the fragile X-associated tremor-ataxia syndrome in a premutation carrier population
Article Abstract:
Many older men who have premutation expansions of the gene for fragile X mental retardation (FMR1) may develop tremors and movement disorders similar to Parkinson's disease, according to a study of 192 families. Men who had the FMR1 premutation expansions were 13 times more likely to develop tremor and movement disorders than men who did not. About one percent of all men have these FMR1 premutation expansions.

Paroxetine controlled release in the treatment of menopausal hot flashes: a randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
A controlled release version of the drug paroxetine may be effective in treating menopausal hot flashes, according to a study of 165 women. Many doctors are looking for an alternative to hormone replacement therapy after the Women's Health Initiative study found that hormone replacement therapy may do more harm than good. Paroxetine belongs to a class of antidepressant drugs called SSRIs.
