Article Abstract:
About half of the operations performed by medical residents specializing in obstetrics and gynecology are hysterectomies and cesarean deliveries. This was the conclusion of researchers who analyzed the clinical experience of residents who took the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology oral examination in 1995 and 1997.

Time to discard the cookie cutter
Article Abstract:
An obstetrician discusses his suggestions for improving residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. Residency training in OB/GYN is pretty much the same in the 1990s as it was in the 1950s. OB/GYN doctors should realize that if they do not play a greater role in providing primary care for women, other specialties will take their place. Consequently, OB/GYN residency programs should be more flexible and provide residents with more than the "cookie cutter" approach. All OB/GYN residents should also be taught the skills to become a life-long learner.
