Commentary: it's time major league baseball made tobacco history
Article Abstract:
Professional baseball players and team owners should ban smokeless tobacco (ST) use in the major leagues to discourage young fans from adopting this habit. Widespread ST use among professional baseball players encourages imitation by admiring youth. Almost three times as many college baseball players as white male high school seniors used ST in 1989. Increased use among young people is attributable to the tobacco industry's marketing campaign that associates ST with sports and athletic performance. Despite the harmful health effects of ST, baseball players may continue to use this substance in front of children because it is addicting, strongly associated with baseball, and accepted by society. Few state laws forbid tobacco sales to minors and even fewer specifically prohibit ST sales to this age group.

Reconsidering the ashtray: From lowly to lovely, the humble accessory takes its place in history
Article Abstract:
Ashtrays assumed various forms in succession of styles, including Art Nouveau and Art Deco after smoking became socially acceptable for men in the 1880s, earning its way into the lexicon. After the emancipation of women in the 1920, ashtrays became a household accessory, cutting across all strata of taste and class, along with allowing a wide range of design interpretation in marble, ceramic, metal, crystal and glass and offering heightened moments of aesthetic focus in a house.
