Comparison of intraocular pressure between normotensive and preeclamptic women in the peripartum period
Article Abstract:
Measuring pressure within the eye may be a noninvasive method for predicting pregnant women at risk for preeclampsia before more serious symptoms develop. Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy that is marked by excess fluid gain, hypertension, and protein in the urine. Researchers compared intraocular pressure measurements in 18 preeclamptic women and 18 women with normal blood pressure near the time of labor. Intraocular pressure was significantly higher in preeclamptic women during labor and after delivery. Intraocular pressure was the same in both eyes and whether sitting or lying down.

Peripartum cardiomyopathy: a comprehensive review
Article Abstract:
Peripartum cardiomyopathy is the development of an enlarged heart and congestive heart failure during pregnancy. The condition may result from infectious or autoimmune inflammation of the heart. Patients may complain of chest pain, difficulty breathing, swelling, and fatigue, and an x-ray will generally show an enlarged heart. Treatment may require drug therapy to reduce fluid in the body and the workload on the heart, immunosuppressive medication, and dietary sodium and fluid restriction. Women with the condition may be at greater risk for heart failure later in life.

Peripartum myocardial ischemia: A review of Canadian delieveries from 1970 to 1998
Article Abstract:
The cohort of women were identified, who were admitted to Canadian hospitals for delivery between 1970 and 1998 in order to calculate the incidence rate and to evaluate the incidence of peripartum myocardial ischemia in Canada. It is observed that the incidence of peripartum myocardial ischemia did not increase between 1970 and 1998 in Canada, despite an aging cohort with more prevalent medical comorbidities.
