Munchausen syndromes: hoaxes, parodies, and tall tales in science and medicine
Article Abstract:
Rudolph Erich Raspe published a collection of tall tales entitled 'Baron Munchausen's Narrative of His Marvelous Travels and Campaigns in Russia.' The term 'Munchausen' then became synonymous with an individual who tells tall stories from humorous anecdotes to outright lies. Muchausen Syndrome, a factitious disorder wherein the patient feigns an acute illness and allows the physician to do painful tests and intensive procedures, was also derived from Raspe's book. Munchausen should also be applied to the hoaxes appearing in scientific literature.

Article Abstract:
The impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be lessened by structured family support and counseling. The chance of rehabilitation increases for TBI suffers if families are helped and reassured to manage caring techniques in their own homes. Suffers of TBI can suffer violent mood swings and be unable to work, resulting in frustration and anxiety within the whole family. A psychosocial support structure can help families come to terms with TBI, enabling a greater acceptance of the injury both within the family and socially.
