Continuous positive airway pressure for central sleep apnea and heart failure
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to test the hypothesis that continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) would improve the survival rate without heart transplantation of patients who have central sleep apnea and heart failure. CPAP attenuated central sleep apnea improved nocturnal oxygenation, increased the ejection fraction, lowered norepinephrine levels, and increased the distance walked in six minutes, however, it did not affect survival.

Cardiovascular effects of continuous positive airway pressure in patients with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea
Article Abstract:
People with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea may benefit if both conditions are treated, according to a study of 24 patients. Twelve received continuous positive airway pressure to treat their sleep apnea, and 12 did not. Those who did experienced an improvement in their heart failure symptoms. Sleep apnea occurs when people stop breathing temporarily throughout the night.
