Contrasting effects of diethylenetriamine-nitric oxide, a spontaneously releasing nitric oxide donor, on pregnant rat uterine contractility in vitro versus in vivo
Article Abstract:
Diethylenetriamine-nitric oxide appears to reduce uterine contractions in live laboratory rats in contrast to the drug's effects in an artificial environment. Contraction response to diethylenetriamine was analyzed in rat uterine tissue samples and in live rats under anesthesia and during labor. Contraction pressures were progressively reduced in laboring rats as the amount of diethylenetriamine-nitric oxide was increased. This effect began 30 minutes after injection in late-term anesthetized rats and after 60 minutes in full-term laboring rats. The drug did not reduce contractions in laboring uterine tissue samples.

Effect of glycosylated hemoglobin on endothelium-dependent relaxation of omental arteries from pregnant women
Article Abstract:
Glycosylated hemoglobin does not seem to have a negative effect on endothelium-dependent relaxation of omental arteries in pregnancy. Therefore, glycosylated hemoglobin does not appear to play a role in endothelial dysfunction in gestational diabetes. No differences were found between human glycosylated hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin in their effects on endothelium-dependent relaxation of omental arteries from pregnant women.

Electrical inhibition of preterm birth: Inhibition of uterine contractility in the rabbit and pup births in the rat
Article Abstract:
A study to inhibit uterine contractility during parturition with an electrical current, which is called electrical inhibition, in the rabbit and the rat is presented. Electrical inhibition is rapid and localized with a prolonged duration and the reversibility is spontaneous.
