Phospholipid binding specificities and idiotype expression of hybridoma derived monoclonal autoantibodies from splenic cells of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
Article Abstract:
The types of autoantibodies produced in the spleens of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) appear to vary both between persons and within persons. SLE is a serious autoimmune disease that affects connective tissue and major organs. One complication of SLE is that autoantibodies produced in the spleen react with substances involved in the clotting cascade and interfere with the blood's ability to clot. Cells were cultured from the spleens of two SLE patients who had their spleens removed to treat blood-clotting abnormality. Monoclonal antibodies were isolated from cultures of spleen cells and tested for reactivity against various substances produced as part of the clotting cascade. Various cell lines differed in their profile of antibody types even from cell lines cultured from the same person. Some reacted with only one substance, others with several. Some of the antibodies produced could be shown to interfere with clotting.

Correlation of 9G4 idiotope with disease activity in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
Article Abstract:
iThe 9G4 idiotope antibody may be associated with disease severity in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). SLE is an autoimmune connective tissue disease. Researchers measured the 9G4 idiotope in 190 SLE patients, and found that 40% had elevated 9G4 idiotope levels. The level of this idiotope was higher in patients with more severe disease.
