Council matters
Article Abstract:
Nursing's professional organisation, UKCC, has proposed changes to the government to protect the public from bogus nurses by requiring employers to check registration details prior to engagement. The UKCC also wants stiffer penalties for imposters. Another proposal is that nursing needs one authority to monitor the profession rather than the four boards which currently exist. One body would be more consistent than four and would be better able to protect standards. Representatives of the four boards are being circumspect in their comments about the proposals.

Protection package
Article Abstract:
The government has refused to provide condoms to male prisoners. This was the only recommendation refused in the review of AIDS and HIV in prisons by the prison service. The prison service thought that providing condoms for penetrative anal sex would help meet the Health of the Nation targets.
