Deadly fish, tainted toothpaste spur scrutiny of products from China

Many products imported from China to the U.S. have posed safety risks to individuals, thus prompting wide recalls and government investigations. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers not to buy or eat imported fish labeled as monkfish, as the FDA testing has revealed these products contain life threatening levels of tetrodotoxin.

Experts have given their views on physicians prescribing off-label drugs for a condition not described in the approved labeling. Additional efforts are required for accessing appropriate off-label drugs for patients with rare and other diseases while safeguarding against illegal marketing and potentially dangerous prescribing.
