Debate Revived on Hepatitis B Vaccine Value
Article Abstract:
Routine vaccination of infants against hepatitis B virus infection is effectively reducing hepatitis B cases in the US, but opposition to vaccination threatens the ultimate success of the fight against the disease. Vaccine opponents argue that the vaccine can cause multiple sclerosis, autism, diabetes, and other diseases, despite the lack of scientific evidence suggesting a connection. Many cases of hepatitis B are in patients with no identifiable risk factors. Allowing parent to opt out of vaccine programs will prevent eradication of the disease.
