Tuberculin skin testing among economically disadvantaged youth in a federally funded job training program
Article Abstract:
Economically disadvantaged youth in federally funded job trainingships may be at an increased risk of tuberculosis. Researchers evaluated the medical records of 22,565 students in job training programs nationwide. The rate of positive tuberculosis after a tuberculin skin test amounted to 2.4% among US-born students and 32.7% among students born abroad. Tuberculosis rates were highest among Asian/Pacific Islander populations. These results may offer public health interventions for the prevention of tuberculosis.

Is maternal age a risk factor for mental retardation among children?
Article Abstract:
Maternal age does not appear to be a risk factor for mental retardation among the offspring of teenaged mothers. A modest increase in risk was reported among white children born to older mothers and a markedly elevated risk of codevelopmental retardation was observed among black children by older black mothers. It was not determined if the results for this subgroup was unique, but further study in needed.
