Did the NHS fail Child B?
Article Abstract:
The case of Jaymee Bowen, who was known as Child B when her case came before the courts following the refusal of the NHS to pay for further treatment for her leukaemia, attracted extensive media attention. The media generally denounced the NHS for putting financial considerations before a child's life, and overlooked that fact that doctors had stated that it would be inappropriate to undertake a second bone-marrow transplant. All those involved were faced with very difficult decisions, and it is impossible to make a generalised judgement about the case.
