Diet in relation to socioeconomic status in patients with coronary heart disease
Article Abstract:
The prevalence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in Finland is relatively high compared to other countries, and it is still the most common cause of death in the country, with diet being a contributing factor. A study investigated nutrient intake, food consumption and fatty acid profile of serum cholesteryl esters (CE) in relations to levels of education in CHD patients. The diet of middle or highly educated male CHD patients was more closely linked to recommended cholesterol lowering diet, than the diet of poorly-educated men. The impact of education was weaker in women with CHD.

Concordance of diet with the recommended cholesterol lowering diet in patients with coronary heart disease
Article Abstract:
The concordance of diet with the recommended cholesterol lowering diet in coronary heart disease patients is studied. Results show that about one-third and one-fourth of patients attained the recommended fat and saturated fat intakes, respectively. Concordance also improved in patients taking lipid lowering drugs. However, it was not influenced by the severity of the disease and was worse in patients suffering from diabetes and obesity.

Effects of low-fat stanol ester enriched margerines on concentrations of serum carotenoids in subjects with elevated serum cholesterol concentrations
Article Abstract:
The effects of low-fat stanol ester margarines on serum carotenoid concentrations were investigated. Serum alpha-carotene concentrations did not change significantly in the low-fat wood stanol ester (WSEM) group, or the vegetable oil stanol ester (VOSEM) group. Beta-carotene concentrations however fell significantly in the WSEM and VOSEM groups.
