Drink drive
Article Abstract:
A survey by research nurse, Hazel Watson, has revealed that nurses are unable to advise on safe alcohol consumption because of inadequate training. About 168 nurses from glasgow hospitals participated in the survey. A further survey indicated the value of intervention. Four groups were given varying degrees of advice and information or no information. After one year only the group who had received advice and written information had markedly reduced consumption. Alcohol Concern recommends a national initiative in alcohol awareness.

Article Abstract:
Nurse education professional, Roger Dyson has criticised the Project 2000 nursing course. He maintains emphasis on primary nursing is incompatible with short hospital admissions. It also fails to prepare nurses adequately for community nursing. Other health professionals disagree. Monitoring by a primary nurse becomes more important with a faster patient turnover. Some have complained Dyson's skills-based approach is a too narrow interpretation of professional education.

Article Abstract:
A patient suffering Crohn's disease has successfully carried out total parenteral nutrition (TPN) at home since 1981. TPN was first used to rest the bowel but became long-term therapy when symptoms recurred with a normal diet. Scrupulous attention to hygiene has avoided infection. An understanding of the disease and potential problems is necessary for successful home treatment. Adequate discharge education should familiarise patients with their regime.
