Drugs for HIV infection
Article Abstract:
No current drugs can eliminate HIV infection, but combinations of drugs used together seem able to effectively interfere with the progress of the virus in the body. Together, they diminish the virus' ability to reproduce itself, strengthen the immune system's ability to fight off the attack, and delay opportunistic infections, which helps extends life span. One type of drug prevents the breakdown of protein in the cells, which allows the virus in. Two others prevent reverse transcription, which prevents the virus from reproducing.
