ENB framework enhances midwifery practice
Article Abstract:
A midwife describes the benefits of studying for a diploma in midwifery through the English National Board (ENB) framework as a means of maintaining and developing her professional competence in line with the UKCC code of practice. Participation in the ENB framework has benefited the midwife's practice, not least because it has enabled her to offer objective advice to mothers wanting to breast-feed. The midwife also completed a course of study to obtain an International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants qualification as an international lactation consultant.

Mothers' help
Article Abstract:
The Brierley Midwifery Practice was set up by a small group of midwives working within the King's Healthcare Trust in south London in response to growing demand for home births and a recognition of the need to provide particularly sensitive care for women with a history of mental health problems. The group now deals with around seven home births and five 'high-risk' women every month, and also offers a range of holistic therapies. It is one of the four winners of the NT/3M 1995 National Nursing Awards.
