Economies of scales
Article Abstract:
The Health of the Nation Outcome Scales are a means of measuring the mental health of patients. The set of 12 scales can be used quickly and easily to show whether a patient is improving or deteriorating. The scales, which were developed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, measure various features such as aggression, mood, physical illness and social problems. Training for staff is underway already. The UK Department of Health has stipulated that this will become part of the normal care programme for mental health patients. Details of the scales are given.

The history man
Article Abstract:
Nurse educator John Adams is collecting obsolete medical equipment to support a history of 20th century nursing practice. His main interest is in workhouses and public assistance hospitals. Text books, recorded interviews and county records reveal that nursing principles have changed little despite technological advances. However, there is a danger that information may be lost before it can be recorded.
