Effect of konjac fibre (glucomannan) on glucose and lipids
Article Abstract:
The intake of glucomannan with a high-fiber diet has useful effects on glucose and lipid level and may help in preventing or retarding the atherosclerosis formation in diabetes. Glucomannan is obtained from the Amorphophallus konjac tubers and has an identical chemical structure with galactomannan of guar gum. The effect of glucomannan on gastric emptying time, on bile acids, on minerals and vitamins, and on macrovascular changes in animals are discussed.

Dietary fibre in olives: characterization of fractions
Article Abstract:
There is negligible difference in the proportion of cellulose from acid detergent fibre (ADF), neural detergent fibre (NDF) and insoluble fibre (IF) as observed during in vitro characterization of digestibility of olives by various methods. Proportions of hemicelluloses from NDF and IF are nearly equal. Highest percentage of glactose was found in IF. Mannose is present in nearly same amounts and rhamose is present in small fractions in ADF, NDF, and IF.

Effects of processing on dietary fibre content of asparagus
Article Abstract:
A study of the effects of processing on dietary fiber content of asparagus shows an increase in cellulose and no change in the concentrations of acid detergent fibre of asparagus after processing. Insoluble fiber content and uronic acids decreased and lignin totally degraded during the processing. Amounts of proteins, hemicelluloses and uronic acids were observed in the apical zone rather than in the stem.
