Effect of maintenance therapy with varenicline on smoking cessation: A randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
A randomized control trial was carried out to determine whether smokers who quit after 12 weeks of treatment with varenicline, maintain greater continuous abstinence rates than placebo controls during an additional 12 weeks of treatment and until 52 weeks after treatment initiation. It was found that smokers who received additional 12 weeks of varenicline treatment showed greater continuous abstinence compared to placebo and this advantage was maintained until 52 weeks after treatment initiation.
