Chronic renal failure - a vasculopathic state
Article Abstract:
Chronic kidney disease appears to increase the risk of coronary artery disease independently of other risk factors. Cardiovascular disease accounts for half of all deaths among patients with kidney disease who are on dialysis or have received a kidney transplant. Most cases of end-stage kidney disease are caused by chronic hypertension or diabetes. These conditions can be successfully controlled by antihypertensive drugs and good blood glucose control. Patients with kidney diseases should be carefully examined for signs of coronary artery disease.

Parathyroid hormone plus alendronate -- a combination that does not add up
Article Abstract:
People with osteoporosis should not be treated with parathyroid hormone and a bisphosphonate drug at the same time. Two studies published in 2003 show that this combination is actually worse than either treatment separately. For this reason, patients could begin taking parathyroid hormone for a year or two, then stop the hormone and start taking a bisphosphonate drug.
