Effects of cod liver oil on lipids and platelets in males and females
Article Abstract:
The effects of 25 ml supplementary cod liver oil on lipids and platelets was compared in 20 men and 14 women in an eight-week cross-over trial. Serum triglycerides were decreased by 0.21 plus or minus 0.09mmol/l while LDL cholesterol increased by 0.28 plus or minus 0.12 mmol/l. LDL cholesterol values in women decreased insignificantly. Although mean platelet volume increased by 6% in both sexes, platelet sensitivity to collagen in platelet-rich plasma significantly declined in men only.

Does dietary supplementation of cod liver oil mitigate musculoskeletal pain?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the effect of dietary supplementation of cod liver oil on the intensity of musculoskeletal pain. A cross-sectional design was used and data was taken from the 1985 Norwegian Health Survey. The sample consisted of 4,490 adults who reported musculoskeletal pain. The pain intensity was assessed by self reports during an interview. The results indicate that cod liver oil lessens the intensity of musculoskeletal pain.

Interleukin-1 in alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver: the influence of nutrition
Article Abstract:
Patients with chronic alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver were analyzed for interleukin-1 (IL-1) production using adherent cells stimulated in vitro with lipopolysaccharide B. Patients were classified according to their nutritional status and those in the cirrhotic group showed lower IL-1 activity. These results validated the premise that malnutrition plays a role in the immunoregulatory disturbances of alcoholic liver disease.
