Effects of residence in Alzheimer disease special care units on functional outcomes
Article Abstract:
Special units in nursing homes for patients with Alzheimer's disease do not appear to result in any functional benefits. Researchers evaluated Alzheimer's disease special care units (SCUs) in more than 800 facilities in four states covering 77,337 Alzheimer's patients. No differences were seen in the ability to perform activities of daily living in patients in SCUs compared to regular units. However, many family members may prefer to have the patient in an SCU.

Long-term renal outcomes in patients with primary aldosteronism
Article Abstract:
An analysis was carried out to determine the long-term outcome of renal function in patients with primary aldosteronism after surgical or medical treatment. The results revealed that in the majority of patients, primary aldosteronism was characterized by partially reversible renal dysfunction in which elevated albuminuria is a marker of a dynamic rather than structural renal defect.
