Ending the blame game; an open constructive approach is the better way to improve patient safety
Article Abstract:
The complexities inherent in the American medical care system often threaten patient safety, and constant litigation seeking to recoup excessive damages due to accidental error only feeds the cycle of blame. The American Medical Association's National Patient Safety Foundation seeks to enunciate the message that medical care and practice is an ever-evolving process, subject to accidents and better served through honest examination of those mistakes than through the cycle of litigation.

Guidelines right road for AMA
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association (AMA) provides a valuable service by providing physicians with guidelines for the prevention and treatment of common public health problems. The AMA's guidelines, on such topics as HIV and domestic violence, provide credible information and are distributed to all physicians, not just AMA members. However, only 20%-25% of physicians reported using the HIV guidelines, but that still represents a good result for the AMA's efforts.
