Environmental Health Center prepares for the worst
Article Abstract:
The National Safety Council's Environmental Health Center has worked with Eli Lilly Co in developing an emergency-response exercise called TIPPEX '92 in response to probable accidents in Eli Lilly's Tippecanoe Laboratories plant in Lafayette, IN. The exercise simulated a truck-train collision on the plant site causing fire, chemical pollution and multiple injuries. The simulation was tested with the help of volunteer plant employees, local police agencies, public safety agencies and the local media.

Industry filters out groundwater impurities
Article Abstract:
Groundwater contamination involves both microbial contamination and chemical contamination from leaking waste dump sites, accidental spills and illegal dumping. Chemical contamination should addressed by industries since it is controllable by biological and mechanical means. Mechanical methods such as carbon adsorption and air stripping have their own uses. Bioremediation or biological treatment of groundwater uses microorganisms to detoxify the aquifers.
