Euro action on hepatitis B
Article Abstract:
A new European Community directive aimed at protecting employees working with hazardous biological agents is likely to improve the position of health workers at risk from hepatitis B. The issue needs attention since under 40% of such workers have received vaccination, despite awareness of the risk and availability of vaccines which perform well in terms of safety and efficiency. Meanwhile, the Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board has organised a first conference, with Spanish, French and UK contributors giving an account of the situation in those countries.

Hepatitis reports available
Article Abstract:
Many employees in the UK are in danger of contracting either hepatitis A or B in the course of their work, according to two recent reports. Sewage workers, nursery staff and carers working with people who may have poor personal hygiene are at particular risk of contracting hepatitis A. Hepatitis B is a prescribed occupational disease for healthcare workers, and is also a danger for fire workers, ambulance workers, police officers, waste disposal workers and prison officers.

Protection against hepatitis B
Article Abstract:
Doctor Friedrich Hofmann from the department of occupational health at the University of Freiburg, Germany has carried out tests on 1,600 health workers.
