Evaluation of a food frequency questionnaire with weighed records, fatty acids, and alpha-tocopherol in adipose tissue and serum
Article Abstract:
No associations between intake of alpha-tocopherol and concentration in serum and adipose tissue were found in an evaluation of a food frequency questionnaire with fatty acids, weighed records, and alpha-tocopherol in serum and adipose tissue. The questionnaire was evaluated in a group of 125 Norwegian men, 20-55 years of age, fall 1995 and winter 1995/6. Results of the questionnaire method were compared to results from another dietary assessment method, biochemical measurements. The questionnaire gave higher median values than did the diet records for micronutrients. Data suggest that very-long-chain n-3 fatty acids in adipose tissue and total serum lipids reflect dietary intake of very-long-chain n-3 fatty acids at a similar level.

Alcohol intake assessment: the sober facts
Article Abstract:
Where there is enough evidence that alcohol intake has been underestimated in a population, methods that enquire about both frequency and amount consumed for wine, beer, and liquor, separately, will give the best data on intake levels. To advise the public on suitable limits for alcohol intake and to be able to verify compliance, methods that accurately rank people based on alcohol intake and that assess absolute levels of intake are needed. Self-reported alcohol intake in surveys covers about half the amount sold, in general. The literature on alcohol intake assessment methods is reviewed with emphasis on ranking of those who drink based on estimated intake levels.
