External validation of the Canadian CT Head Rule and the New Orleans Criteria for CT scanning in patients with minor head injury
Article Abstract:
A study aimed to validate and compare the Canadian Computed Tomography (CT) Head Rule (CCHR) and the New Orleans Criteria (NOC) in Dutch patients with head injuries. Results indicated that for patients with minor head injury and a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 13 to 15, the CCHR had a lower sensitivity than the NOC for neurocranial traumatic or clinically important CT findings, but would identify all cases requiring neurosurgical intervention and had greater potential for reducing the use of CT scans.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and Alzheimer disease: what's next?
Article Abstract:
More research is needed to determine whether non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Research has shown that NSAIDs may lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease but a study published in 2003 found that NSAIDs could not slow the progression of the disease in patients who already have it. NSAIDs were tested because scientists believe inflammation in the brain may contribute to the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Migraine as a risk factor for subclinical brain lesions
Article Abstract:
People with migraine headaches may also have small strokes in their brain, according to a study of 435 people. People who had migraine with aura more than once a month had the highest risk of stroke. These small strokes occurred most often in the part of the brain called the cerebellum. The strokes are so small they do not cause symptoms and can only be found by brain scans.
