Face values
Article Abstract:
Nurses do not always have the appropriate skills to help people come to terms with the physical and psychological effects of facial disfigurement. Charities believe nurses need to be more aware of the help that is on offer for patients in the form of support groups and workshops. A charity for facial disfigurement called Changing Faces was established by James Partridge in 1992 after he suffered facial burns. It runs programmes which train professionals to improve support skills and understand the psychological impact of disfigurement.
