Family therapy: concepts, models and applications
Article Abstract:
Family therapy, which is now widely used as a way of addressing children's emotional and behavioural problems, is based on a number of key concepts. The family is seen as being controlled by several broad constraints, including power, nurture and structure. These are used by the therapist to develop a way of thinking about the key characteristics of the family which have connections with the particular problem being addressed. Family therapy is now recognised as making a valuable contribution to the emotional health of all family members.
