Feeding signals and drugs meet in the midbrain
Article Abstract:
Studies were conducted to determine whether hormones known to regulate feeding also regulate neuronal activity in a key site in the brain that plays a central role in mediating drug addiction. Results indicate that since leptin receptors are expressed in several targets of ventral tegmental area neurons and leptin was implicated in hippocampal synaptic plasticity as well as in the regulation of mood, leptin and ghrelin may modulate neural circuitry in a variety of sites that modulate motivation.

Clinical trials for antipsychotic drugs: Design conventions, dilemmas and innovations
Article Abstract:
A second generation of antipsychotic drugs, introduced since 1992, for the treatment of schizophrenia, has provided uncertain advantages over the first-generation drugs. An evaluation of the effectiveness of putative antipsychotic drugs is presented, and it is suggested that practical and large, simple trials that evaluate the comparative effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs in real-world settings can help to meet these needs once a drug has reached the market.

The breast cancer resistance protein BCRP (ABCG2) concentrates drugs and carcinogenic xenotoxins into milk
Article Abstract:
The multidrug transporter BCRP, encoded by ABCG2, is strongly induced in the mammary gland of mice, cows and humans during lactation. It is responsible for the active secretion of clinically and toxicologically important substrates such as the dietary carcinogen PhlP, the anticancer drug topotecan and the antiulcerative cimetidine into mouse milk.
