Fetal weight gain at term: linear with minimal dependence on maternal obesity
Article Abstract:
Fetuses may continue to gain weight at a linear rate in the final weeks before birth, rather than experiencing a reduction in the rate of weight gain as has been previously thought. Researchers studied 326 women and their babies to assess the relationship of birth weight to gestational age between 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy. Mothers were nonsmokers who did not have diabetes, and their infants' gestational ages were confirmed. Average weight gain of fetuses in the final weeks of pregnancy was found to be 12.7 plus or minus 1.4 grams per day, with a total weight gain of one pound after 37 weeks gestation. Infants of mothers who were obese and male infants gained slightly more than other infants, but the difference was not significant.

Ultrasonographic prediction of term birth weight: how accurate is it?
Article Abstract:
The authors discuss the accuracy of ultrasonic algorithms for the term fetal weight estimation. They report that term birth weight estimates carried out via the use of ultrasonography are as accurate as the predictions based of quantitative assessment of maternal and pregnancy-specific characteristics.

Medical education as a science: the quality of evidence for computer-assisted instruction
Article Abstract:
The author has analyzed the literature on computer-assisted instructions in medical education with the emphasis on obstetrics and gynecology. The author states that there are no comparative studies in obstetrics and gynecology demonstrating clear-cut advantage of the method.
