Medicare and private insurers cannot pay doctors a cent if they submit non-HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) electronic claims under the new electronic health care transactions standards of the HIPPA. HIPPA-complaint claim meets the standard format specified by the HIPPA implementation guide for that transaction.
