Get tough on medical errors, conference told
Article Abstract:
The conference on health care quality and patient safety in Chicago of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization concluded that the government action and public pressure are required to force the health care industry to improve quality and patient safety. People must be made to speak of the ways in which medical errors affected them, in order to avoid the future occurrence of such events.

Minority mistrust still haunts medical care
Article Abstract:
Institute of Medicine report found that racial and ethnic minorities received lower quality health care than whites, and stated that the bias and stereotyping by the health care professionals may contribute to differences in care. Hence it is important to build relationships with minority patients by understanding their culture and racial backgrounds and being sensitive to them.

The National Resident Matching Program revealed that the number of graduating medical school seniors and other match applicants, who chose residency programs in family medicines, has decreased. The 2003 Match Day figures indicate that seniors are increasingly choosing residencies in specialties as better paying job opportunities influence them.
