Glimepiride for NIDDM
Article Abstract:
Glimepiride does not appear to provide greater benefit to people with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) than is provided by other drugs. Glimepiride, which is sold under the brand name Amaryl, is a sulfonylurea recently put on the market and is the only sulfonylurea that the Food and Drug Administration has approved for administration along with insulin. It is intended for people with NIDDM who are not responsive to diet and exercise therapies. Clinical trials appear to demonstrate that glimepiride is as effective as glyburide and gliclazide. Side effects of glimepiride include hypoglycemia. The drug does not appear to have significant drug interactions. It is administered as a single daily dose and appears to be well absorbed with meals or while fasting. Sulfonylureas act by stimulating insulin secretion from the pancreas and may also increase the insulin sensitivity of tissue.

Towards full research park status
Article Abstract:
Successful Export Processing Zones (EPZs) can turn into centers of higher technologies and profits and eventually become full-fledged research parks. Governments can accelerate the attracting of investment if they go about it in the right way. They need to enable a market environment, share profits with skilled inventors and avoid a brain drain, among other things. It is important that they stay flexible within a core policy. In Asia, research parks are evolving along different lines from those of the Stanford model of the US. With government backing, they will attract more international investment and improve technology.
