Growth hormone improves lean body mass, physical performance, and quality of life in subjects with HIV-associated weight loss or wasting on highly active antiretroviral therapy
Article Abstract:
The efficacy, safety, and tolerability of recombination human growth hormone (rhGH) in the treatment of wasting/weight loss in HAART-treated HIV-infected subjects are investigated. The rhGH was considered as a superior to placebo in improving physical function, body weight, body composition, and lean body mass and quality of life.

Effects of growth hormone on abnormal visceral adipose tissue accumulation and dyslipidemia in HIV-infected patients
Article Abstract:
Visceral adipose tissue accumulation and metabolic abnormalities develops fat maldistribution in some HIV-infected patients. Recombinant human growth hormone at a dose of 4 mg daily for twelve weeks decreases visceral adipose tissue and cholesterol concentrations in HIV-infected patients with excess visceral adipose tissue.

Efficacy of selected treatments of HIV wasting: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
The efficacy of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH), testosterone, and anabolic steroids in the treatment of HIV wasting is assessed. All the three treatments assessed, demonstrated significant efficacy in increasing lean body mass, as compared with placebo.
