Article Abstract:
The efforts made by the legislators to overturn the federal privacy rule, which is a part of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act are discussed. The rule allows physicians and health plans to share health information without obtaining patient consent for treatment, payment and health care operations, such as quality assessment and underwriting.

Senate votes to allay physician, patient fears over genetic tests
Article Abstract:
Consumers are reluctant to get genetic testing done because of the fear that genetic information can be utilized by health insurance companies to decide on premiums and by employers to deny the benefits of employment. Legislation has been passed in the Senate prohibiting the use of genetic information to cause harm to consumers.
