HIV/AIDS legislation in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Laws concerning HIV/AIDS in the Czech Republic fall under broad measures against transmitted diseases, since there are yet no legal regulations specific to AIDS or HIV infection. However, the Ministry of Health has drawn up guidelines on the prevention and treatment of HIV, in lieu of special legal provisions pertaining to the disease. Recognizing that such policy guidelines are insufficient as a substitute for legal regulations, legislation on public health protection has been proposed, which includes provisions for HIV/AIDS testing.

Atypical mycobacterioses threaten the quality of life and survival of HIV-positive and AIDS patients in the Czech Republic. Disseminated atypical mycobacterial infections in patients with severe immunodeficiency can lead to disseminated disease. Symptoms include fatigue, sweating, fever, anorexia, diarrhea, cachexia, lymphadenopathy and hepatosplenomegaly. Severe anemia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia are found in laboratory tests, while hepatic tests show a higher alkaline phosphatase level.
