HIV/Hepatitis C virus-coinfected patients with normal alanine aminotransferase levels
Article Abstract:
A study to evaluate whether normal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels identify HIV/HCV-coinfected patients with reduced necroinflammation or fibrosis is presented. It was found that normal serum ALT levels do not identify HIV/HCV-coinfected patients with mild necroinflammation and suggest that coinfected patients with normal ALT may not have a more benign disease course in comparison with those with elevated ALT.

Intrahepatic CD4 (super +) cell depletion in hepatitis C virus/HIV-co infected patients
Article Abstract:
Co infection with HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV)-specific immune responses, increases hepatic inflammation, accelerates hepatic fibrosis. HIV co infection is associated with fewer portal CD4 (super +) cells and increased lobular lymphocyte apoptosis that may affect the natural history of HCV infection.

Effect of HIV-1 infection on lymphocyte proliferation in gut-associated lymphoid tissue
Article Abstract:
HIV infection causes an increase in CD4+ T cell proliferation in gut-associated lymphoid tissue, according to a study of 12 HIV-infected patients and 9 health volunteers. Gut-associated lymphoid tissue contains about half the body's supply of lymphocytes.
