The categories of change identified by Robbins can be applied to the changes affecting health care organizations. These categories include changes in structure, in technology and in people. Health care organizations should define their reasons for instituting changes and educate their employees about the desired outcomes. Clear communication, accurate data and flexible plans are vital to managing effective change and providing quality care.

Strategies for the nurse executive to keep the rural hospitals open

Nurse executives play a major role in the strategies employed to keep rural hospitasl operating and providing care to their communities. One strategy is the essential access community hospital/rural primary care hospital (EACH/RPCH) program established under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. Another is the cost-based funding for rural hospitals provided under the Rural Health Clinic Act.
