Health system reform or not, physician salary caps are coming
Article Abstract:
Businesses are increasingly contracting with physician groups directly, and their emphasis on cost containment is limiting the salaries of some physicians and discouraging the hiring of specialists. For example, Park Nicollet Medical Center in Minnesota is the health provider for a coalition of local businesses. The 360-physician group plans to increase its primary care physicians and decrease specialists through attrition. In addition, investment banks and financial ratings services consider physician salaries as they evaluate the investment potential of a group practice.
