AAD wants to convert sun worshipers
Article Abstract:
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) is joining forces with the media and industry groups to urge consumers to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Excessive sun exposure can increase the risk of basal and squamous cell skin cancer as well as melanoma. The AAD has instituted the National Coalition for Sun Safety and also awards the Gold Triangle Awards to people and companies who have contributed to public sun safety. The AAD is working with various sports associations and has convinced administrators of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to mention sun safety in their handbooks.

'Doing what is best for patients': a sesquicentennial rededication
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association kicked off its 150th anniversary by convening a conference on medical ethics. The association's Code of Ethics was first formulated in 1847, at the founding of the AMA in Philadelphia. At the conference, many speakers addressed the history of medical ethics. There is little evidence that medical ethics has improved patient care or the physician-patient relationship. The AMA has launched the Institute of Ethics, which will conduct research on various ethical issues.
