Helping schoolchildren to help themselves
Article Abstract:
A Bangkok school selected 40 fifth-graders to participate in the Health-Promoting Leaders program. The plan emphasizes improving diet, immunization against diseases, providing a mobile medical unit and education about personal hygiene. Health concerns are also stressed in terms of the physical environment of school grounds.

A Shanghai school shows the way
Article Abstract:
China has been a leading proponent of Health Promoting Schools as it initiated a program in Shanghai in 1991. The plan set standards for hygiene, posture control, refuse recycling and improved sanitation. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the health education of their children.
