California HMO initiatives gather steam, signatures
Article Abstract:
A group of health care activists consisting of the California Nurses Assn, the Foundation for Taxpayer & Consumer Rights, plus consumer advocates Ralph Nader and Harvey Rosenfield are circulating calling for the Patient Protection Act. It would require fees from managed care plans and prevent certain actions of health maintenance organizations, such as curbing physicians' referrals. Another group, Californians United to Stop HMO Abuses, backs a similar proposal without the fees.
