Prozac's pros and cons: suicide experts debate merits of the most prescribed antidepressant
Article Abstract:
Opinions of Prozac, Eli Lilly & Co's popular antidepressant, vary from calling it a miracle drug to claiming it causes violent behavior. Psychiatrists at a suicide prevention conference were told that Prozac, a brand-name for fluoxetine, controls serotonin in the central nervous system. A side effect may cause extremely impulsive behavior. About 100 suits have been filed against Lilly by persons whose suicidal or homicidal behavior followed doses of Prozac.
