Implementation of the Ottawa ankle rules in France: a multicenter randomized controlled trial
Article Abstract:
The Ottawa ankle rules could significantly reduce the number of X-rays ordered for patients who present to an emergency room with the symptoms of ankle injury. The Ottawa ankle rules are a set of guidelines for improving the management of ankle injury. In five Paris hospitals, the number of X-rays ordered was analyzed before and after the implementation of the Ottawa rules. Among 1,911 patients seen for ankle injury, the rules reduced the number of X-rays ordered by 22% compared to the pre-intervention phase, which covered 2,218 patients.

Methodological differences in clinical trials evaluating nonpharmacological and pharmacological treatments of hip and knee osteoarthritis
Article Abstract:
Many studies of non-drug treatments for hip and knee osteoarthritis are not properly designed or implemented, according to researchers who evaluated 110 studies. Sixty of the studies evaluated drug treatments and 50 evaluated non-drug treatments such as surgery, arthroscopy, joint lavage, rehabilitation, acupuncture, and patient education. Doctors should be cautious when interpreting a study of a non-drug treatment for osteoarthritis.

Quality of reporting of noninferiority and equivalence of randomized trials
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the methodologic quality of reports of randomized controlled trials of noninferiority and equivalence. Reporting of noninferiority and equivalence trials has important deficiencies and absence of noninferiority or equivalence margin, only an ITT analysis performed, and results not adequately reported.
